About

Dorit Sauer & The Corner of Excellence

Self-leadership mentor

I am Dorit Sauer, Mentor for Self-Leadership, born in Dresden, Germany, and living in Madrid, Spain, since 2000. I invite you to discover how I can help you, why work with me, and what has led me here.

The Corner of Excellence is for women, especially executives and executive assistants, who are fed up with the stress of not coping with everything on a personal and professional level, and who find it difficult to disconnect from work. If you want to reduce the overwhelm, stress and exaggerated demands to gain clarity, a sense of control, serenity and confidence in order to feel more balanced and happy, this is your corner.

The Corner of Excellence

A space in which trust and respect, authenticity, responsibility, productivity, and comprehensive well-being prevail.

I created The Corner of Excellence in 2016 when I felt a lack of challenges, and opportunities for personal and professional development. I had gone through phases of stress and had sought information on the causes and ways to alleviate it. I had studied Mindfulness and had been practicing it for a few years. However, I was seeing stressed people all around me who didn’t seem to know how to reduce their stress levels. Thus, The Corner of Excellence was born with the desire to provide people with ideas, advice, and tools to better prioritise (starting by considering themselves a priority) and relieve stress.

Why work with me?

I have suffered stress due to overload, impotence, and monotony. I have even suffered the burnout syndrome on several occasions. As well, I have experienced closely the stress caused by overload, the burden of responsibility, instability, and its effects on physical and mental health.

Luckily, resilience, self-confidence, and my desire to continue learning and growing as a person and professional have been my faithful allies to react before hitting rock bottom. However, it seemed to me that I was tripping over the same stone over and again: quickly, I felt stuck and got tired of pulling the cart swimming against the current.

Looking back, I realise that the dissatisfaction and labour conflicts were due to a conflict with what I considered important, that is, an incongruity with my values. Respect is one of my core values. So are leadership and excellence.

That is why for me it is important that each one assume their responsibilities and contribute their part. Also, I understand leadership as self-efficacy; that is, to lead oneself first in order to better lead others. Excellence for me means trying to be a better person and professional, developing skills that may be limiting us in some way.

My passion for personal and professional growth

Although I have always been enthusiastic about learning, all this sparked my passion for personal and professional development. I have spent years delving into the topics of priorities, productivity, soft and social skills and, of course, stress relief.

All this has allowed me to get to know myself better, my strengths and weaknesses. I often say that I am a perfectionist in recovery. But years ago, I realised that I cared more about productivity than perfection. I continue to be self-demanding, but I try to make it a healthy self-demand that helps me honour excellence as an important value for me. I have also learned to accept that each of us has our measuring stick. That is why I continue training every day so that my standards do not put pressure on others, knowing that each one of us has our background of knowledge, experiences, strengths, and weaknesses.

My professional journey

I studied trilingual management assistance in Germany, as well as business management and administration at EAE Business School in Spain. I have worked as an Office Manager, management secretary and executive assistant in national and multinational companies from different sectors for over 20 years. Here you can find my full career path.

As I am passionate about learning, in all these years I have not stopped studying and reading about a multitude of topics related to personal development, productivity, and stress relief.

My concern for personal and professional development led me to launch myself into entrepreneurship at the beginning of 2023. I am certified in Coaching by Values® and The Stress Map® with Zinquo. I am studying for Neuro Linguistic Programming coach practitioner with Auspicium. All this to be able to help you effectively.

Additional information about me

I am a ‘multipotentialite’. I have multiple interests and a lot of curiosity to discover and learn new things.

I love to travel, discover new places and cultures. And yes, being a language geek, I try to learn at least a few courtesy words and phrases in my travel destination’s language.

I love to enjoy nature in all its variety, from the mountains to the beach. It fills and inspires me to visit monuments, museums, exhibitions, go to the theatre, and listen to music. I enjoy good conversations and laughing out loud with friends.

I like to dance and sing, although I don’t do it as much as I would like. Also, I love to read and devour personal development books and novels. I also like to solve riddles, Japanese puzzles and play board games with friends as well as time-management or strategy games.

To take care of myself I practice Pilates, yoga, mindfulness, and I go for walks. And I would like to resume swimming.

Shall we work together?

I’m glad you made it to the end of my little ‘novel’. I consider trust to be key in the mentoring and coaching processes. That’s why I hope you’ve been able to get an idea about me. But if you want to know anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask me.
